Here’s the rundown on our charts this week. You are forgiven if you haven’t yet heard of Maribou State, but not for long. This UK duo just sold out their London gig and other European dates may follow that trend. The Portraits album has been a top play all summer long for us at KRKQ. If you want to dig a little deeper, check this chill Maribou State Bedtime Mix from BBC Radio1.
Next up, Mocean Worker’s (Adam Dorn’s) self-titled electro-swing infused album comes in at number two. This is an album that the Dorn describes in Live for Live Music like this; “it’s like [Count] Basie, the Gap Band and I walk into a bar and hang.” MoWo may be our staple stateside electro-swing artist, just as European artists like Parov Stelar flourish on the European circuit. Now that this MoWo song found its way onto NPR’s Weekend Edition, may MoWo’s fame and fortune commence.
Here’s the rest of our list of exploration-worthy albums from this past week’s airplay chart.
