Have you ever driven the complete San Juan Skyway? The Skyway is a “must drive” for vistors to Southwest Colorado as it includes the picturesque and historic mountain towns of Telluride, Dolores, Mancos, Durango, Silverton and Ouray. Traveling clockwise, Mountain Chill is the only commercial FM radio station readily available between Rico and Dallas Divide on our car radio, and we think it provides the perfect soundtrack to the million dollar views of our 14,000 ft. mountains. Tune in to 95.5 FM for info. on weather, current happenings, and road conditions/closures for the whole region and sponsored ads about events and attractions along the way. In Telluride, visit for a summer festival like Bluegrass, Jazz, or Blues & Brews. You can spend an entire weekend exploring hiking trails, galleries, or great food. The same goes for Durango, a bit of a metro hub for the Four Corners region and home to many craft breweries as well. Silverton, Dolores, and Rico, are small and charming mountain towns that seem to have changed little since the days of the old west. Mancos is a small artist and craftsperson hub and a great stop-off to/from Mesa Verde National Park. The drive between Silverton and Ouray is the “Million Dollar Highway” section of the loop and features a drive hundreds of feet above a canyon of precambrian rock. Hold on to the steering wheel, the road is quite narrow, at least for a US highway. Ouray is a true stunner in a picturesque box canyon, with waterfalls in-town, and world-famous hot springs. You’ll find hot springs included at several hotels and at the city hot springs pool. Visit our sponsor, the Ouray Colorado (Chamber) to explore your options. An overnight stay in Ouray is highly recommended. Round out the loop with a stop in Ridgway, one of the faster growing towns on the loop.
